We are a community business, so we give back to our community. It's that simple. We sponsor, donate, volunteer and sometimes just show up... to a huge number of local events and charities. Here are a few...
Our flagship event, the annual kids shopping tour started almost 40 years ago. Don and a few of his friends took some kids that otherwise may not have had the opportunity; Christmas Shopping. Each child got a coat, shoes and a present...followed by a nice dinner.
Fast forward a few decades and Thousands of kids have participated in the shopping tour. Don's "elves" at Don's Mobile Glass, as well as other local businesses and friends take deserving children out for an afternoon of holiday shopping; followed by a great group dinner and capped off with a visit from Santa.
The event has crossed generations; one of the coolest parts is when we have sponsors that were actually on the tour themselves taking a new generation shopping. It is a direct action event that has immediate impact and we can't wait to do it every year! A documentary on the event is in the works!
For over 30 years, the Model T and FREE POPCORN has been a fixture at the MoBand Events in Graceada each week in June. We also loan our popcorn machine out to dozens of groups each year - just for asking.
The Model T has seen many parades and our people have received many reprimands for tossing souvenirs to the crowds.
We love the American Heart Association and actively participate in the annual heartwalk
Our leaders are active in numerous charities and community organizations and we regularly volunteer for pretty much anything that someone asks for help with. Whether it is through Love Modesto, or a one off event - we try to help whenever we can.
In 1985, at the height of the Cold War, Don decided to take matters into his own hands... He put together a petition for peace, with thousands of signatures from across Northern California and hand delivered it to the Russian embassy in Paris - via a single engine aircraft.
The original plan was to go to Moscow, but politics made that impossible. Employees got excited when they got a package back from Don while he was on the trip... only to find out it was his laundry.
June of 1985 was proclaimed by the Mayor of Modesto to be "Flight for Peace" month because of the trip Don and Bill ventured on.
